In a significant setback for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), star overseas batter Will Jacks will be absent for the do-or-die clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

Jacks, along with compatriot Reece Topley, has left the RCB squad following their victory over the Delhi Capitals last week. Both players have returned to England to join their national team for the 2024 T20 World Cup preparations. England is set to play a four-match T20I series against Pakistan from May 22 ahead of the marquee tournament in June.

Reflecting on his stint with RCB in a recent team video, Jacks expressed his appreciation for Bengaluru, the RCB fans, and his teammates: “It’s been amazing,” Jacks said. “The fans have made it amazing… I have really loved it. The city, Bangalore, is really cool. It’s been a great experience. Greeny (Cameron Green), Lockie (Ferguson), Maxy (Glenn Maxwell), I have learned a lot from all the big players, all the local players and everyone has been great with training. I think we have created a really great environment and that has helped us get on as well.”

Jacks played a pivotal role in RCB’s resurgence, helping the team recover from just one win in their first eight games to securing five consecutive victories. In his debut season, he amassed 230 runs in eight innings, including a remarkable century against the Gujarat Titans, boasting an impressive strike rate of 175.57 from the number three position—a role he rarely played for England.

Who Has Replaced Will Jacks in RCB’s Playing XI?

As anticipated, Glenn Maxwell has been included in RCB’s playing XI. The Australian all-rounder had a challenging start to the season and even stepped away from the team for mental well-being. However, Maxwell remains a formidable game-changer, especially on a ground like Chinnaswamy.

RCB’s playing XI: Faf du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Karn Sharma, Yash Dayal, Lockie Ferguson, and Mohammed Siraj.

The absence of Will Jacks adds a layer of intrigue to today’s high-stakes match. Can Maxwell fill the void and lead RCB to victory? Fans eagerly await the outcome.
