The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are locked in a pivotal IPL match. A league game between these two South Indian giants holds immense significance. If RCB secures an 18-run victory over CSK, they will qualify for the playoffs. Conversely, the Super Kings have multiple paths to the next round: a win, a no result, or even a loss by less than 18 runs would see them through.

RCB has started strong at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, racing to 31/0 in three overs. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli were in command when rain interrupted the match, which is yet to resume.

The stands are packed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for this crucial Super Saturday clash in IPL 2024. Both RCB and CSK have a rich history of success, having qualified for the playoffs multiple times. RCB, despite making it to three finals, has never won an IPL title, while CSK boasts five trophies but has also faced defeat in four finals.

Interestingly, three players have experienced the disappointment of losing IPL finals with both RCB and CSK. Let’s delve into the stories of these three players.

1. Shane Watson – Lost IPL Final in 2016 with RCB and 2019 with CSK

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was pivotal in Chennai Super Kings’ 2018 championship win, where he smashed a century against SunRisers Hyderabad in the final. A decade earlier, Watson clinched the inaugural IPL title with Rajasthan Royals. However, he also endured final defeats. In 2016, Watson was part of the RCB team that lost to SunRisers Hyderabad. Three years later, despite a valiant effort, he couldn’t secure victory for CSK against Mumbai Indians, losing by a single run.

2. Kedar Jadhav – Lost IPL Final in 2009, 2016 with RCB and 2019 with CSK

Kedar Jadhav shared the locker room with Shane Watson during the 2016 and 2019 seasons. Representing RCB in 2016 and moving to CSK in 2018, Jadhav did not feature in the playing XI for either final. Interestingly, he was with RCB in 2009 as an uncapped player and didn’t get a chance to play. His IPL debut came with Delhi Daredevils in 2010, where he impressed with an unbeaten half-century against RCB.

3. Karn Sharma – Lost IPL Final in 2009 with Bengaluru and 2019 with Chennai

Karn Sharma made his IPL debut for RCB in 2009, playing just one match that season and not featuring in the final. A decade later, he was in the CSK squad that narrowly lost to Mumbai Indians in 2019. Like in 2009, Sharma played only one game in the 2019 season. Currently, he is part of the RCB squad and is participating in tonight’s match in IPL 2024.

The match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams fighting for a spot in the playoffs. The rain delay adds an element of suspense, making fans eagerly await the resumption of this high-stakes game.
