Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has made his return to the playing XI for tonight’s high-stakes IPL 2024 clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The match is being held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, promising an intense battle between these two formidable teams.
For RCB, this match is a must-win to secure a spot in the playoffs. Not only do they need a victory, but they also have to surpass CSK’s net run rate. Currently, RCB sits in the seventh position on the points table with 12 points from 13 games. Despite a rocky start, losing seven of their first nine matches, RCB has shown remarkable resilience, winning five consecutive games to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Maxwell Replaces Jacks
Will Jacks, who performed admirably at the No. 3 position for RCB, is unavailable for this match. He left the team camp earlier this week to join England for national duty. In his place, veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been brought back into the team for the crucial game against CSK.
Maxwell began the season with RCB but was later dropped due to poor performances. He managed only 36 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 97.3, with his highest score being 28. Maxwell will be eager to overcome this rough patch and contribute significantly to RCB’s success in this critical encounter.
Captain Faf du Plessis on the Match
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first. Speaking after losing the toss, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis remained optimistic:
“I lost a toss a couple of days ago and we put on a good show. We have to do the same. Winning the toss isn’t a big deal. We have to put on a good show, and we have taken a lot of confidence in the last five games. Yes, it sets up nicely for us.”
He added:
“Two good teams and one goes through. It’s a great occasion tonight, and for us, it’s special to play our last game in Bengaluru. We have gone through everything and focused on the brand of cricket we wanted to play.”
