The Rajasthan Royals (RR) triumphed over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by four wickets in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22. This victory propels RR to Qualifier 2, where they will face the SunRisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 24.

RCB’s journey to the playoffs was nothing short of remarkable, winning six consecutive matches in the league phase against all odds. However, their campaign ended in heartbreak with the loss to RR. Despite the defeat, several RCB players consistently shone throughout the tournament and deserved a better fate than an early exit. Here, we highlight five such players:

#1 Virat Kohli

India’s cricketing legend Virat Kohli, the leading run-scorer of IPL 2024 with 741 runs, stood tall with an impressive average of 61 and a strike rate of 154. Kohli was instrumental in RCB’s resurgence and their march to the playoffs. His stellar performance makes him one of the most deserving players for a better outcome than a knockout in the Eliminator. Likely to end the tournament as the Orange Cap holder, Kohli’s exceptional season will be remembered despite the team’s premature exit.

#2 Dinesh Karthik

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik announced that IPL 2024 would be his final season, and he certainly deserved a more fitting farewell. Renowned as one of the best finishers in the league, Karthik played crucial innings lower down the order for RCB. His contributions were significant enough to spark discussions about a potential return to the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. A more illustrious send-off would have been ideal for such a dedicated player.

#3 Faf du Plessis

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis showcased exceptional leadership and batting prowess throughout the season. Forming a formidable opening partnership with Virat Kohli, he amassed 438 runs at a strike rate of 161. Du Plessis not only motivated his team but also set high standards in the field. His performance and leadership deserved to propel RCB further into the competition.

#4 Yash Dayal

Left-arm seamer Yash Dayal, acquired from Gujarat Titans, emerged as a much-improved bowler this season. Regularly challenging opposition batters, Dayal’s performance was a highlight for RCB. The Eliminator loss is a setback, but his dedication and skill promise a strong comeback in future seasons.

#5 Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar, the talented batter from Madhya Pradesh, had an inconsistent start but found his form mid-season, becoming a key player for RCB. Known for his prowess against spin and his quick footwork, Patidar scored a crucial 22-ball 34 in the Eliminator. His contributions in the middle overs were vital for RCB, making the early exit even more disappointing for such a promising player.

RCB’s early elimination is undoubtedly a blow for these standout performers who gave their all throughout IPL 2024. Their individual brilliance deserved a deeper run in the tournament, and fans will surely be eager to see them bounce back stronger next season.
