Former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu subtly mocked Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans by sharing a nostalgic video of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) celebrating their fifth IPL trophy win. This post came shortly after RCB’s four-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22.
RCB had previously knocked out CSK from the playoff race with a stunning 27-run victory in their final league-stage match. Rayudu, who was commentating during that game, seemed visibly disappointed by the outcome.
Following RCB’s elimination, Rayudu took to Instagram to share a throwback video, reminding fans of CSK’s impressive five IPL trophies. The ex-CSK star captioned the video:
“Just a gentle reminder…”
CSK pacers Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana responded to Rayudu’s post. Chahar added a salute emoji, while Pathirana chimed in with laughing and yellow heart emojis, showing their support.
It’s notable that both CSK and RCB ended the league stage with 14 points each. However, Bengaluru secured the last playoff spot due to a superior net run rate of 0.459, compared to CSK’s 0.392.
“Only Passion and Celebrations Don’t Win You Trophies” – Rayudu’s Take on RCB
RCB’s impressive six-match winning streak came to an end with their defeat to RR in the Eliminator. They failed to defend a 173-run target at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Reflecting on RCB’s knockout loss, Rayudu emphasized that winning trophies requires more than just passion and celebrations. Speaking on Star Sports, he stated:
“If you talk about RCB today, it shows that only passion and celebrations don’t win you trophies. You need to plan. You didn’t get the IPL trophy just by reaching the playoffs. You have to play with the same hunger. Don’t think you will win the IPL trophy just by beating CSK. You will have to come next year once again.”
Upcoming Matches and the Road to the Final
RR and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will compete in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, May 24. The winner of this match will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final, scheduled for Sunday, May 26, at the same venue.
As the tournament reaches its climax, fans are eagerly anticipating whether RR or SRH can challenge KKR and claim the coveted trophy.
