Rahul Gandhi moved to Wayanad after he lost the election in Amethi to Smriti Irani in 2019. Now, in 2024, he has officially applied to run for election again from Wayanad.
Kishor, speaking to the news agency PTI, said that if you can’t win in states like UP, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, winning from Wayanad won’t be very helpful. He believes that by giving up Amethi, the Congress party might be sending the wrong message. Winning just in Kerala won’t be enough for the Congress to win the entire country.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to run for elections in Varanasi along with his seat in Gujarat in 2014 because winning in the central Hindi-speaking states is crucial for winning the national elections.
Kishor said something about the Congress party not being sure about who will run for office in Amethi, a place where the Gandhi family usually has strong support. Later on, Robert Vadra said in interviews that people in Amethi want him to run for office there. He also said that if he decides to run, party workers want him to represent Amethi.
Vadra criticized the current Member of Parliament, Smriti Irani, for not paying enough attention to Amethi and for making unfair accusations against the Gandhi family. He said that people in Amethi are tired of Irani and believe she discriminates against them.
Basically, the political strategist advised Rahul Gandhi to take a break if his party doesn’t do well in the next elections. Even though Mallikarjun Kharge is the president of Congress, Rahul Gandhi is practically leading the party, according to Kishor.
Kishor mentioned that despite Rahul Gandhi not delivering results in the past 10 years, he hasn’t stepped aside or let someone else take charge. It’s worth noting that Kishor had a plan to help Congress recover and even planned to join the party, but it didn’t work out because of disagreements between him and the party leaders over his recovery plan.
